When setting up a tanning salon or facility there are a number of things to be considered. When you have completed your market research, secured your premises, identified your finances and decided upon the tanning equipment that you wish to purchase there are still a number things which need to be planned before opening the business.

Ensure that there is adequate space for the tanning equipment which you wish to install, bearing in mind that you must allow space for equipment servicing, people to change and freshen up afterwards. You may wish to provide showering facilities as well.
Ensure that there is sufficient power supply to run the sunbeds. Does the building have single or three phase electricity? How many isolator switches are needed?
Ensure that there is sufficient ventilation in the room(s) where the sunbeds are going to be sited. Sunbeds create a lot of hot air that needs to be extracted and replaced with cooler air. The room temperature will need to be regulated according to the seasons. Tansun provide ducting facilities for their equipment.
Decide how you are going to keep customer records accurate and up-to-date. These records should include a disclaimer signed by the customer stating that they are fit to use a sunbed. This database can be used for future mailings to further promote your business.
Marketing of the business prior to opening. Your sunbed supplier should be able to advise on this matter and offer some support.
Ensure that all your staff receive training on the tanning equipment, skin typing and general health and safety issues relating to tanning.
Speak to the TSA about insurance, as they offer a very competitive and tailored policy for the tanning industry.
